Recording “Holden”

“Holden” appears on Where the Knives Meet Between the Rows.

Watch Leigh and his band recording at The Map Room studio in Portland, OR. Pull back the curtain and take a peek at how the magic happens (hint: it takes ample amounts of sweat, coffee, and lengthy, meandering debate).

Leigh Marble - vocals and guitar
Ben Macy- keys
Jason Russell - drums
Peter David - bass
Josh Powell - engineer

And appearing via the magic of overdubs (over the last part): Rachel Taylor Brown on harmony vocals, Kali Giaritta on glockenspiel, and Matt Harmon on hilife guitar solo (Matt and Kali are both from the excellent Portland band The Ascetic Junkies).

Lucky Bastards, meet Wild Guitar!

A talented kid from the sticks crosses paths with a showbiz mogul. The kid gets signed to a record deal, appears on TV swinging his hips, and becomes a massive overnight sensation. The story of Elvis? No, it’s the 1962 b-movie classic “Wild Guitar,” starring Arch Hall Jr. as teen pop sensation Bud Eagle!

Now, there’s two things you should know about “Wild Guitar”: one, it has a lot of great scenes depicting the wild fortunes and deadly pitfalls of the rock n’ roll life. And two, that baby is in the public domain… which means it was fair game to cut up the footage for our own ends!

With all the showbiz shenanigans depicted in “Wild Guitar,” it seemed a perfect match for Leigh’s song “Lucky Bastards” - a tale of ambition and poisonous envy (and Charlie Watts). So without further ado, may we present the world premiere of the “Lucky Bastards” - Wild Guitar video!
